RECYCLING PRODUCTS FOR GARDENING

Recycle Tin Cans

Use soup and vegetable cans as plant starts. Punch a few holes in the bottom for drainage.
When ready to plant in the ground bury the can with the plant still in it. The can will rust away providing minerals to the plant.

Recycle Plastic

Use plastic food containers to start seeds. Grocery store roasted chicken containers have
a great dome lid. Place dirt in the bottom half. Place seeds in the dirt. Lightly water. Clip on the cover and walk away. The unit will self water.

Recycle Plastic Containers

Cat litter containers are a great way to store flower pots. Keep spiders and roaches away and
keep them clean until you are ready to use them. Small buckets are handy to collect kitchen scraps for composting.

EASY HAULING

Keep a pair of laundry baskets in your car trunk. End those days of grocery bags falling open and groceries spilling all over the place. Forget bringing home unwanted boxes from warehouse stores.
And just in case you spot an unpicked fruit tree, you will be ready.

RECYCLE DRYER SHEETS AND PAPER TOWELS

Save your dryer sheets and paper towels. They make great liners for flower pots and help keep orchid bark from tumbling out of containers.

Rainwater Collectors

Knowing there is a water shortage, I decided to collect my own garden water. I purchased 8 plastic trash cans, some garden hose and fittings. In a few hours we were set up to collect 240 gallons of water.

Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control Mosquito Control

To keep the mosquitoes under control, place small pieces of mosquito dunks in each water can. These dunks contain a microscopic insect called BT for short. They eat mosquito larvae. They are safe around people and animals.

Starting Seeds with Recycled Products

In small pots, I cut a water bottle in half and use it to keep the plastic bag from laying down on the surface of the soil. The mini humidifier works great.

After filling the pots with soil, I placed the seeds in the pots, watered them and tied them up in grocery bags. In a few weeks they sprouted.
