Neighborhood Beautifucation South Tampa

NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFICATION

I am offering to contribute trees and plants to be used
for the beautification of the entrances to our neighborhoods
and the retention areas. Maybe we can get some of the businesses on Manhattan and Gandy to plant some free tropical shade trees next to the sidewalks. If you have ideas or plants to donate, contact me.

REJUVINATION

My mango tree was severely damaged in the 2009 freezes. We had it heavily pruned back and agreed not to cut any new branches, no matter how low they were. We learned along the way that trimming the lower limbs only causes the fruit to be out of reach. The tree came back with an awesome flourish of flowers.

Victory Gardens Tampa

VICTORY GARDENS

A community garden in South Tampa would be a wonderful thing, but if you have a bit of land to grow produce at home, a Victory Garden would be an alternative to consider. I share my seeds and harvests with my friends and neighbors. I have many vegetable and flower seeds and starter plants.
If you want to share, or if you need seeds or starts, please contact me.

EARTH BOXES

With the price of vegetables soaring, we decided to attempt to grow more produce this year. We bought our first Earth Box and filled it with 6 different tomato plants. They are doing fantastic compared to the ones we planted in the ground 3 months earlier.

SNOW PEAS 2010

We had an amazing crop of snow peas that were so delicious we ate many of them fresh off the vine. We started in November and continue in April to harvest.

Eileen Shirley

I started this website in 2009. Elisabeth Parker, a writer for the St. Pete Times, wrote a story about me. From that story I made over 200 new friends. I met people from all walks of life with a diverse array of ideas about what it means to be green and about how to feed people through local harvesting and farming. Click here to read my story.

My regular job is as a Graphic Designer. I do engineering drawings using AutoCAD software and I create websites. In my spare time I make custom ceramic tiles, yard art and grow too many plants. My husband makes the coolest furniture, garden benches and yard art from recycled materials which are now featured in the recycled art shop called Tamarind Tienda.
