Grow Chico or Sapodilla in Florida

FRESH FRUIT

I have a chico tree (Filipino name) which is also know as as a spodilla tree (Mexican name). Growing up in the Philippines, after we ate the meat of the fruit, we would seek out the seeds. They have a little piece of white sap attached that we chewed like bubble gum. We could only get real Bazooka bubble gum from the American military kids so this was our little substitute. The fruit tastes like carmel and has the texture of a pear. The tree is full of baby fruit which I hope to enjoy very soon.

Grow Basil in Florida

FRESH VEGGIES

With the summer heat it sure is hard to keep anything growing. I am growing Genovese and Red Rubin basil. I tried several other varieties but these two did the best. I am getting really big leaves growing them in the shade and I am making lots of jars of pesto. I usually have my pesto with my pasta but I recently served it as a topper along with pepperoni and cheese for my crackers.
Everyone loved it.
